Q: In Dr Sears book “OmegaRx Zone” he recommended another omega-3 product comparable in quality to his omega-3 product. It's been several years since the book was written. Are there any other omega-3 products that are pharmaceutical grade as well besides the two mentioned in his book?

A: If you go the Web site www.ifosprogram.com, you can find a number of fish oils that have been tested for concentration and purity and have received a five-star rating. Very few of these oils are available in the U.S. Keep in mind that each lot of fish oil is highly variable (like wine) so you have to make sure that every lot sold by a company has been tested. The types of fish oils generally available to the consumer in health-food stores are lower in EPA and DHA concentration and have significant less purity. The marketers of these fish oils are unlikely to pay the price for testing and, of course, would not want their results posted on the web for all to see.
