If it walks like a duck ...

Parade magazine is the most widely read weekly publication in America. So it was
interesting when it published its simple rules for a lifetime of healthy eating on
Jan. 7. The article started out: "Forget all the complicated eating plans or one-
size-fits-all diets. These simple rules are the key to a lifetime of healthy
eating:"
The recommendations began by advising people to eat five small meals per day
(sounds exactly like the Zone). Then make sure that you consume 40 percent
carbohydrates, 30 percent low-fat protein, and 30 percent healthy fats like olive
oil (sounds exactly like the Zone). A serving size of protein should be size of
your palm (sounds exactly like the Zone). Try to eat 5-6 servings of fruits and
vegetables per day (the Zone recommends more, but I won't be picky). The only
difference between the Zone and the Parade diet is that the magazine recommends the
addition of whole grains.
I think you get the point. The Parade magazine lifetime healthy diet is just about
like the Zone Diet. It would have been nice simply to have Parade acknowledge the
source of its breakthrough program. Oh well, I guess that everyone from the Joslin
Diabetes Research Center at Harvard Medical to Parade magazine just realizes the
Zone Diet is the obvious choice for healthy lifetime eating. In fact, it must be
so obvious that there is no need to acknowledge it.
