Fish oil boosts her spirits

Last Updated May 2008

When I had a miscarriage in December 2005, my boss recommended high-dose fish oil capsules to me. He gave me the book to read about its health benefits. I took it and felt that it did keep me in good health (less prone to falling sick). I kept taking when I conceived again in 2006 as I believe in the benefits for the pregnant mum and the fetus. After pregnancy, I continued taking it while I breastfed my baby into the fourth month. I felt it helped my baby's brain and eye development. He was very alert after the first month. At nine months, he was able to say his first words like "water", "tiger", "diaper". And his vocabulary continues to increase into his 12th month now.

Another marvelous thing that I must share on the fish oil - it helps me overcome my depression. When my elder son was diagnosed with Tourette’s syndrome (in 2006), I was terribly devastated. I’ve been depressed easily since then. I would weep for no reason and feel lousy, hopeless and emotionally unstable. I never realized that I was actually suffering from depression. Thoughts of suicide came flooding into my head, and I simply could not stay positive. This happened when I ceased taking the fish oil. When I decided that I mustn't be foolish because I need to take care of my two kids, I turned to the fish oil once more. Since then, I've been taking it regularly and no longer feel depressed easily. I don't let negative thoughts come into me so easily as I feel the fish oil keeps me more energized. I'm sure some of its components boost up my spirit.
