Understanding test results

Last Updated Aug 2009

Q: I recently did my AA/EPA blood test (Nutrasource). My Omega6/Omega3 is 1.2 percent by WT. However my AA/EPA is 52.4 percent by WT (AA:10.6 , EPA: 0.2 , DHA: 23.5). I am confused as to whether this is a good score (1.2) or a terrible score (52.4). Is the fact that the EPA score is low while DHA high significant?

A: It’s not a good score. However, it also may be an error as it is impossible to have such a high level of DHA and such a correspondingly low level of EPA. I would call them and ask them to check their data again.
