ADD

Last Updated Sep 2007

Q: My son is 8 and is currently on 15mg of Concerta to treat ADD. We also give him fish oil. I am looking for a new fish oil, but I remember reading somewhere that for ADD the mg of DHA should be higher than the mg of EPA. I am having trouble finding this. The brand I am using now is from "Puritan Pride". I would like to eventually treat him with just fish oil, if I can find the right thing.

A: Dear Laura,

Published data indicate that there is no benefit giving higher levels of DHA than EPA. A study we did with ADHD children will be published soon. We found a ratio 2 to 1 EPA/DHA was beneficial using 10-15 grams per day of liquid OmegaRx.
