The History of Drugs—And Why AMPK May Be the Future of Medicine

Can one molecule help treat obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and even Alzheimer’s? Dr. Barry Sears says yes—and it’s called AMPK.

In this episode of The Wellness Zone podcast, Dr. Sears explores the future of chronic disease treatment and why activating AMPK could be the key to helping reverse insulin resistance, reducing inflammation, and preventing conditions like fatty liver disease, kidney disease, autoimmune disorders, and neurological diseases like Parkinson’s, ADHD, and Alzheimer’s.

Rather than relying on pharmaceutical drugs, Dr. Sears explains how a precise anti-inflammatory diet—what he calls Metabolic Engineering—can activate AMPK naturally. By using food like a drug, in the right ratio and on a consistent basis, it’s possible to improve metabolic health and even slow down the aging process.

Jim Handshaw says:

I’ve been following Barry Sears for almost thirty years and recognize his lifetime passion for understanding metabolism beyond, or in spite of, the food and pharmaceutical industries. Sadly, no pharmaceutical corporation can do the expensive food (drug) trials because, of course, it can’t be patented. He has often said, “It will take more than one lifetime to get close to understanding metabolism”. His ability of daily digesting the scientific journals on metabolism into language that even I can understand has helped me change my diet.

Thanks Barry
